Amgen tour of California in my backyard

The Amgen tour of California starts this week and I’m lucky enough to have stage 4 start and end pretty much in my backyard. This year stage 4 will start on the pier in pismo beach weaving through oceano, orcutt, santa maria and heading back up to avila beach looping 109 miles with just over 5000 feet of climbing. These guys are scheduled to do it in under 4 1/2 hours! Ill be look forward to the start were most of the pros will be hanging out waiting to start hoping to score a bottle or cap for some one would be amazing!

With Bradly Wiggins not racing this year the door is wide open for anyone! With Mark Cavendish and Peter Sagan in attendance we are guaranteed a good effort by the both of them. But don’t count out team sky they will have  Serigo Heano to conquer the climbs, and hopefully bing ho,e a win for team sky.  Team Giant Alpecin will have Marcel Kittel in their corner. This year is stacked and looks to be a great race!

The Teams will have to endure some of the most picturesque terrain all the way from Nevada City all the way down to Big Bear Lake. Ive said it before and ill say it again I’m ver fortunate to live where i do, I’m able to ride year round some of the best riding in the state, have a major tour roll through my backyard just minutes from my front door, ad this year i got to take part in the first california L’eroica, next year i hope to have a vintage steel bike to actually ride in the event. Not only is San luis obispo a great cycling town to live is it also home to a multitude of bike product companies, Sram has a R&D facility here and developed a lot of their new road 1x systems here, Lezyne also calls SLO  headquarters along with Slime and Voler based in grover beach just a few miles for the pismo beach pier. Im looking forward to next week and hope to have some ics to share from the finish line!

  1. Wicked cool! My favorite riding partner, my Aunt Linda, works as a biochemist for Amgen. She has the full kit, participates in the commuter challenges, and races for Amgen in charity rides around here in Massachusetts. I always thought the company just (wisely) supported cycling with a sweet kit; I didn’t know they sponsored an entire race/tour!

Very very cool! Thanks for posting about this!

  2. Cool … I’ll probably climb up Mt. Hamilton, and watch them climb up the back side of Mt. Hamilton, and see some major suffer faces!
