stage 4 tour of California, Pismo beach to Avila beach

I was lucky enough to score VIP tickets o the ending of the 4th stage of the tour of california, The stage started in Pismo beach about 12 miles from my house and ended in Avila beach. I rode out with my friends from Flanders bikes in San luis Obispo to the staring on the pier in pismo beach for a nice mellow ride

We arrived to pismo and saw all the team busses lined up and the riders walking around and mingling with all the spectators, all the rides were pretty cool very approachable even Mr, Cavendish who had a sizable crowd around him as a result of winning the previous stage

The team sag vehicles were pretty impressive and loaded to the gils with wheels and spare bikes but i took a photo op infront of the team sky sag vehicle

It was really cool to see all the sag vehicles lined up in down town pismo, the trek factory racing team had a nice vw jetta sportwagon tdi, driving a golf ti my self i took a liking to it

We had about 2 hours before the riders were projected to be finishing the race so we check out the vendor are and went by the trek booth and came across Jens Voight’s hour record breaking bike. This was not a reproduction bike it was his actual bike and the let us go up and check it out. it was pretty cool up close there were even some custom motivating graphics on the top tube

After the start of the race we made our way back to San Luis obispo to get cleaned up and head over to the finish and enjoy some VIP treatment. The vip section did not disappoint with great food beer and wine and even fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. we were at the 50 meter mark  and had a perfect view of Peter Sagan’s sprint attack up hill to win the 4 stage. he turned on the gas at the right moment and wasn’t able to t be caught

These were the jersey winners for the fourth stage, With Tom Skujins holding off Peter Sagan he remaind in the yellow jersey along with the climbing jersey and Mark Cavendish had the green points leader jersey and Sagan in the stage winner jersey and Julian ALAPHILIPPE with the white best young rider jersey!

  1. Years ago I waited in a remote spot out in the country for a bike race to pass by. I stood around for almost two hours and when the bikes came by, all of them were gone withing 20 seconds. Being at the finish line drinking beer and eating chocolate chip cookies is a much better plan than mine.
